How Professional Kitchen Cabinet Painting Works
Ever wonder why professional cabinet painting looks so much better than DIY? It's not the paint — it's the process. Here's exactly what happens when specialists refinish your Dallas kitchen, step by step.
Days 1–2: Removal and prep
Every door and drawer front comes off, gets labeled, and goes to a controlled spray area. In your kitchen, everything gets masked — counters, floors, appliances, backsplash. Then the deep clean: kitchens accumulate years of cooking grease, and paint won't bond to it. Degreasing is non-negotiable.
Days 2–3: Sanding and priming
All surfaces get sanded to scuff the old finish and give primer something to grip. Then bonding primer — the product that makes paint stick to varnish, laminate, or previously painted surfaces. Oak grain can be filled at this stage for a smoother final look.
Days 3–5: Spraying
Doors and drawers get sprayed with cabinet-grade enamel — usually two to three coats — in a dust-controlled setup. Boxes are sprayed in place. Spraying (not brushing) is what creates that smooth, factory look with no brush marks.
Days 5–7: Reinstall and cure
Hardware goes back on, doors get rehung and adjusted. Then the critical part: curing. The finish feels dry in hours but reaches full hardness over 1–3 weeks. Your painter will explain exactly when it's safe to resume normal kitchen duty.
